May Schmay

Hello again. My blog has gotten quite stale over the past month and a half. We've been so busy running around getting ready for our trip to Graeagle this year. I just got back from a trip to Target to stock up on fun pool stuff. We leave in 11 days and I can't wait. If you've ever been there for any length of time, you'll know what I mean.

Today's picture is of Colin (and Cousin Rowan in the background) at Sanddollar Beach in Pacific Valley over the Memorial Day weekend. The boys had such a fun time it was hard to steel them away back to the house for some rest. We were joined by Grandma Doris, Aunt Kathryn, Uncle Michael, Cousins Karen, Louis and Rowan. On the way down we stopped at the Monterey Aquarium. Rowan had never been before and his eyes just about popped out of his head when he saw the Outer Bay exhibit.
The official school year for Colin has ended. Although he'll be going during the summer for approximately 3 weeks. The last day of school was a potluck and campout. There were so many people there to celebrate the end of the year. Colin and all his classmates were given certificates of celebration for their completion of the past year. They also were given glow necklaces to wear for the campout. Those were a huge hit. Next year Colin will head into Jeanettes primary class where he'll be with 3 to 6 year olds continuing his fabulous Montessori education (not Colin's school site). I can't tell you enough about how we love this philosophy of education. Read more and links below. My dad will be interested to know the following:
Invited to the USA by Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and others, Dr. Montessori made an appearance at Carnegie Hall in New York by 1915. The following is a letter from this period, from Alexander Graham Bell: Dear Dr. Montessori, On behalf of the Montessori Educational Association of America I have the honor to inform you that we have elected you as its first Honorary member and to express to you in this way our deep appreciation of your great work for humanity.
I was very interested to know....
It is quite an interesting collection of people throughout history who have gone to Montessori schools, sent their children to Montessori schools, or supported this method of education in one way or another. The short list includes: Alice Waters, Friedrich Hundertwasser, Julia Child, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Helen Keller, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Mahatma Gandhi, Sigmund Freud, Buckminster Fuller, Leo Tolstoy, Burtrand Russell, Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, John Holt, Ann Frank, the Dalai Lama, Jacqueline Kennedy, Prince William and Prince Harry of the English royal family, Cher Bono, Yul Brynner, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Yo Yo Ma.

Be well and don't forget to check out the rest of our pictures at Shutterfly.
