Colin's Two-Wheelin' It

Colin got a new "big boy" bike for his birthday from Papa Allan & Grandma Barbara and he's been begging us to get rid of the training wheels since he saw them so dutifully perched on the side of his new ride.

Yesterday we happened upon a bike race in Franklin Park; sort of a cross country, moutain bike event. We watched and cheered all the riders while playing in the park. So we got an idea (one previously used by uncle Derek to teach Maya and Rowan to ride their two wheelers) that we would return to the grassy knoll to teach Colin to ride sans the training wheels. We figured the softer the landing the better.

Alex, handi-cam in hand, followed Colin on his bike with lovely shots of my "party" in the rear. Colin was definitely ready for this, because he just took off on the bike. Within 5 minutes he was pedaling around like a pro.

He was SO excited and proud of himself, he just kept on smiling. At home, he did lap after lap around the neighborhood. He's so happy that now he'll be able to keep up with his cousin Rowan on the bike trail.
