Well, I finally have a few minutes to blog about my acceptance into the SRJC ADN program. I'm not sure that reality has even hit me yet; I still can't believe I'm in. It seems that forever I've been taking my prerequisites and this day would never come. Alas it is becoming more and more real every day.
When they sent me the acceptance letter I was notified that I would be taking the TEAS test July 5th (13 days from the date of acceptance). I was horrified. I had to rush to borrow a book for the studying as well as get ready for our planned 9 day vacation. Nevertheless I was able to get the book and studies nearly non-stop on vacation. All that studying paid off as I scored in the 98th percentile nation-wide. I was very happy! Finally I am able to begin getting all my supplies ready.
Today I went for my final immunizations (MMR, Tdap and my 2nd TB test). I purchased all of the uniforms, shoes, stethoscope, BP cuff, bandage scissors and pen light. I also stopped by our jeweler and had him engrave my stethoscope (as directed because sometimes people steal these precious instruments). Last weekend, I bought most of my books from a guy I met in my BLS (Basic Life Support for health care workers) class.
Monday I will begin to train my replacement at work. Fortunately I'll be able to give her a good month of training. She's very excited to be taking over my position and I know she'll do a great job. I've been there now for three years so it's going to be hard to leave.
For those of you who are unaware, the JC has one of the best RN programs in the state. They have state of the art facilities and an amazing faculty. The program is two years long (one summer off). I start August 22nd full-time with 119 other students. I CAN'T WAIT!
