Reflections on Nursing School (so far...)

The first two weeks of nursing school have been a whirlwind. It seems as though I've been there for at least two months already. These first two weeks have been filled with basic skills such as measuring blood pressure, patient mobility, hygiene and the like. This next week I'm looking forward to injections (yes on other students and them to me as well), physical assessments and meds calculations.

My normal routine is to have lecture Monday 7:30am-12:30pm and Thursday from 1:30-3:30pm. Interspersed on the rest of the days are skills labs and skills competencies. I've already passed two competencies for vital sign assessment and patient mobility.

Clinicals will start in a few weeks. I'll be in a skilled nursing facility two days per week, in Fountaingrove for the remainder of the semester (taking care of REAL people). We're also going to be administering flu shots at a local hospital in October.

Certainly being a Certified Nursing Assistant already has been extremely beneficial, as most of these first few weeks are review of that certification. I'm so happy to be in this program and feel so lucky and blessed to have had the support from my family that I needed to get to this point. I hope to post updates at least once a month on my progress.

All my best!
